Career Advice on How to Become A Parking Lot Attendant

General Career Information

Few jobs are quite as straightforward as that of a parking lot attendant.  The parking lot attendant does attend to a parking lot.  Parking lot attendants spend their days watching over the cars that have been parked in the lot they supervise.  This work may include taking payment and giving out proof of payment for parking services.  Other duties may include giving customers instructions and guiding them where to park.

On occasion, parking attendants might enjoy a nice joyride in your new expensive imported luxury automobile.  Most of the time, however, this is somewhat boring job.  Yet, without the parking lot attendant, complete mayhem could ensue. Dozens or hundreds of defenseless parked cars assembled in one place could make a very, very attractive target.

Many days for the parking lot attendant are spent either running about frantically trying to retrieve numerous cars within a short period of time, or sitting around talking to friends or eating locally acquired fast food.  In lots where customers self-park, the work can be even more boring.  Many people are familiar with the “freshman fifteen,” but few are familiar with the “new parking lot attendant twenty.”  Most new parking lot attendants will gain weight from constantly sitting around.  Some resort to smoking two or three packs a day in an effort to keep the weight off.

Employment as a parking lot attendant is a potentially good option for students who can use the downtime to study the vast amounts of useless information that they will never, ever use in their “real lives” or their “fake lives” either.  Students working as parking lot attendants can also casually let their customers know that they are students, thus increasing the odds of a decent tip.
